Dufvenkrooks celebrates 10th anniversary!

At the end of the 90s, three partners within the wine and spirit business decided to challenge the Swedish national treasure Blossa with a new type of mulled wine – a bit stronger, a bit less sweet and with a bit more adult flavor. Headed by Michael Zachrisson, Dufvenkrooks was created, and soon became a success story. Today, the brand celebrates its 10th anniversary.

(2008-09-24) Dufvenkrooks first mulled wine was called Dufvenkrooks Original, and was a powerful and fruity fortified mulled wine, laced with the finest cognac. The fact that it was laced with cognac was actually fairly natural. Mixing cognac with mulled wine has a long tradition dating back to the 17th century, when people in Sweden, inspired by the French drink Brûlot, started serving heated cognac with melted sugar. Gradually, the spiced spirit was replaced by wine, and the drink started more and more to resemble what we today called mulled wine. Dufvenkrooks Original is still Dufvenkrooks’ best seller. The spicing has notes of brandy, vanilla, citrus, Seville orange and dried ginger.
“We wanted to do something different with Dufvenkrooks. To give it a bit more exclusive feeling, we started by using slightly better base wines and laced the wine with cognac, just like in the old days. Many were intrigued and tried our mulled wine, and were positively surprised”, says Michael Zachrisson, mulled wine maker and one of Dufvenkrooks' founders.
Dufvenkrooks’ entry into the conservative mulled wine market made both Blossa and smaller mulled wine manufacturers wake up and themselves see the opportunities of developing mulled wine. Over the last few years, new flavours have been introduced every year by the mulled wine manufacturers on the market, and Dufvenkrooks itself has launched a new mulled wine every year. The mulled wine varies in flavor and spicing, and all have their own unique character. The wine is hand-picked every year from well-known vineyards in Portugal, Spain and France. The essence and the spice mixture are extracted from natural raw materials.
In time for the 10th anniversary, Dufvenkrooks is launching X-mas Delight, a cacao mulled wine with hints of toffee and traditional Christmas spices.

For the grocery trade, Dufvenkrooks is launching Dufvenkrooks Blåbär & Lingon, a light mulled wine flavoured with blueberries and lingonberries from our Swedish forests.
